30 Day Guide for your IGCSEs

This blog is just a blueprint but it's on you to apply what is going to be said and use it in the best possible way. The main problem is that not all methods may work for you. With this in mind it is best for you to do a bit of research in revision / study guides from which you can use which method you want to use. However do not spend a lot of time into this as you need all the time you have and put it into working towards studying for your exams.

Now let's say you did not do any research on methods for studying. Here are a few:

  • Flashcards

  • Spaced repetition

  • Feynman technique

  • Blurting

  • Parkinson’s Law

Here is plan that you could implement:

Day 1 - 7:

  • Spend the first day planning your course of action.

  • Allocate what you will be studying each day and which topic at a certain time.

  • Get a good idea on what needs the most effort and what you will spend most of your time studying.

  • For the rest of the week start executing the plan.

  • Spend these days by executing your plan.

  • Use all the resources you have and use study techniques that you like.

  • Use textbooks, videos, specifications, online sources etc…

Day 8 - 14:

  • During this week, spend your time learning every topic as much as you can.

  • Spend each day with a singular subject and change it each day.

  • Within each subject dwell into the topics you find the most difficult first as it is better to have a good understanding over all the topics.

  • In between studying topics, do topic specific questions for the topic you had just studied.

Day 14 - 21:

  • Spend your last week revising all your subjects and doing as many past papers as you can find.

  • When doing past papers make sure to do it in exam conditions.

  • Revise multiple subjects a day and clear out any doubts to ensure no problems in understanding of a topic.

Day 21 - 30:

  • Spend this time in practicing exam conditions and fine tuning your understanding / revision in all the topics within your syllabus.

advice:

It is also really important to make sure that you do take breaks. Already you have a time constraint, so taking proper breaks will ensure that you do not burn out and waste more time by studying things that you will not remember the next day. Now do not take breaks that are 30 minutes long, it is better to take 5 to 10 minutes of break every hour and during these breaks do something to get you relaxed but do not get into things that will distract you.

One of the best options for you to implement into your studying plan is keeping anything that will distract you in some other room or maybe locked up somewhere you do not know. The best way to do this is to ask your sibling or parent to take the item that is distracting you and ask them to put it somewhere else. This will allow you to have a study environment where you will not be distracted and allows you to focus on studying alone.

Another idea you could implement is tracking which topic you find the hardest, easiest and in between. Create a list that goes from hardest to easiest, this list will show which topic you should be putting more effort into. This does not mean that you do not look at the topics that you find much easier, it just means that you will be studying one topic much more than another.

Something for you to keep in mind while creating a plan for your studies is to know how long you will be studying in a week, will you study all the time or are there other things that you have that can take up time.
